Bluetooth Product Development Start-Up Company


MARKET

After launching in October 2018, the UK-based company developed and sold its premier product, Mappos Finder, in the UK and European markets. The company dissolved in 2023.

CONTEXT

Mappos Finder is a small Bluetooth device that can be attached to any of your belongings, for example your key chain or your purse. With the companion app on your smartphone you can locate a lost item easily by causing the finder to play an audio alert. Conversely, you can press a button on the Mappos Finder in order to locate your phone.

MY ROLE

Product sound designer & coder, audio asset composer, acoustic engineer.


Mappos Limited contracted me to compose 20 melodies for the device, and to deliver the code for those melodies in their proprietary sound format.

Compose & Code

The device uses a proprietary sound format similar to Ringtone Text Tansfer Language (RTTTL). The format is essentially list of frequencies and durations. I coded within the distinct limitations of the device hardware, because it could not reproduce everything that could be coded. And I chose a frequency range that increased the amplitude output of the device based on known acoustic principles.
